Natalia Azarova

Natalia Azaro­va was born in Moscow on Sep­tem­ber 23, 1956. She stud­ied Span­ish philol­o­gy at Moscow State Uni­ver­si­ty, then earned her PhD and began work­ing at the Insti­tute of Lan­guage Stud­ies at the Russ­ian Acad­e­my of Sci­ences. There she also cur­rent­ly works as a senior researcher and direc­tor of the Cen­ter of World Poet­ry Stud­ies. About half of the year she lives with her hus­band Alex­ei Lazarev, a well-known painter, in the lux­u­ri­ous vaca­tion apart­ment in Alup­ka, artis­ti­cal­ly dec­o­rat­ed by Alex­ei. In the 1990s she was a busi­ness­woman and trad­ed in Swiss choco­lates in Rus­sia. Today she sees her­self pri­mar­i­ly as a poet. She has pub­lished sev­er­al vol­umes of poet­ry and received sev­er­al awards.
