Natalia Azarova was born in Moscow on September 23, 1956. She studied Spanish philology at Moscow State University, then earned her PhD and began working at the Institute of Language Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences. There she also currently works as a senior researcher and director of the Center of World Poetry Studies. About half of the year she lives with her husband Alexei Lazarev, a well-known painter, in the luxurious vacation apartment in Alupka, artistically decorated by Alexei. In the 1990s she was a businesswoman and traded in Swiss chocolates in Russia. Today she sees herself primarily as a poet. She has published several volumes of poetry and received several awards.
